Defining Annihilationism
ANNIHILATIONISM - THE BELIEF THAT THE FINAL FATE OF THE WICKED IS TEMPORARY TORMENT; FOLLOWED BY A LITERAL, ABSOLUTE, AND IRREVOCABLE OBLIVION. IT REJECTS THE NOTION OF HELL AS BEING A PLACE OF NEVER-ENDING TORMENT AND/OR SEPARATION FROM GOD.
Presuppositions
The Doctrine of ANNIHILATIONISM PRESUPPOSES CONDITIONAL IMMORTALITY. In other words, should it be proven that by nature man's soul is immortal, it would be impossible to uphold Annihilationism. On the other hand, however, if it could be proven that man's soul is by default mortal (corruptible or destructible), the stage would be set for Annihilationism. I would therefore highly recommend first researching Conditional Immortality, prior to researching Annihilationism.

A discussion relating to the History and Development of Annihilationism.
Shadows, Types & Figures
The Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah
"But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly." (Gen. 13v13, AKJV, p.6)
"" (Gen. 18v20-19v28)
Luke tells us that what happened to Sodom, will also happen to the unrighteous at Christ's Return.
"But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. EVEN THUS SHALL IT BE IN THE DAY WHEN THE SON OF MAN IS REVEALED. In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. Remember Lot's wife." (Lk. 17v29-32, AKJV, p.461)
Peter suggests the same.
"And TURNING THE CITIES OF SODOM AND GOMMORRAH INTO ASHES condemned them with an overthrow, MAKING THEM AN ENSAMPLE UNTO THOSE THAT AFTER SHOULD LIVE UNGODLY;..." (2 Pt. 2v6, AKJV, p.108)
But it is Jude, who in speaking of "the judgment of the great day" (Jude 1v6) that says:
"Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, ARE SET FORTH FOR AN EXAMPLE, SUFFERING THE VENGEANCE OF ETERNAL FIRE." (Jude 1v7, KJV, p.110)
The Great Deluge
"" (Gen. 6v1-7v24, AKJV, p.)
"And AS IT WAS IN THE DAYS OF NOE, SO SHALL IT BE ALSO IN THE DAY OF THE SON OF MAN. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and DESTROYED THEM ALL." (Lk. 17v26-27, AKJV, p.461)

Statements & Confessions
The 1660 General Baptist Confession of Faith XXII
That the same Lord Jesus who shewed himself alive after his passion, by many infallible proofs, Acts I. 3. which was taken up from the Disciples, and carried up into Heaven, Luke 24. 51. Shall so come in like manner as he was seen go into Heaven, Acts. 1. 9, 10.
II. And when Christ who is our life shall appear, we shall also appear with him in glory, Col. 3. 4. For then shall he be King of Kings, and Lord of Lords, Rev. 19. 16. for the Kingdome is his, and he is the Governour among the Nations, Psal. 22. 28. and King over all the earth, Zech. 14. 9. and we shall raign (with him) on the Earth, Rev. 5. 10. the Kingdomes of this World, (which men so mightily strive after here to enjoy) shall become the Kingdomes of our Lord, and his Christ, Rev. 11. 15. for all is yours, ( 0 ye that overcome this world) for ye are Christ's, and Christ is Gods, 1 Cor. 3. 22, 23. For unto the Saints shall be given the Kingdome, and the greatness of the Kingdome, under (mark that) the whole Heaven, Dan. 7. 27. Though (alas) now many men be scarce content that the Saints should have so much as being among them; but when Christ shall appear, then shall be their day, then shall be given unto them power over the Nations, to rule them with a Rod of Iron, Rev. 2. 26, 27. then shall they receive a Crown of life, which no man shall take from them, nor they by any means turned, or overturned from it, for the oppressor shall be broken in pieces, Psal. 72. 4. and their now vain, rejoycings turned into mourning, and bitter Lamentations, as ‘tis written, Job 20. 5, 6, 7. THE TRIUMPHING OF THE WICKED IS SHORT, AND THE JOY OF THE HYPOCRITE BUT FOR A MOMENT; THOUGH HIS EXCELLENCY MOUNT UP TO THE HEAVENS, AND HIS HEAD REACH UNTO THE CLOUDS, YET SHALL HE PERISH FOR EVER, LIKE HIS OWN DUNG; THEY WHICH HAVE SEEN HIM, SHALL SAY, WHERE IS HE?
The 1995 Doctrine Commission of the Church of England in England
"Christians have professed appalling theologies which made God into a sadistic monster. ... HELL IS NOT ETERNAL TORMENT, BUT IT IS THE FINAL AND IRREVOCABLE CHOOSING OF THAT WHICH IS OPPOSED TO GOD SO COMPLETELY AND SO ABSOLUTELY THAT THE ONLY END IS TOTAL NON-BEING." [3|5]

The Parable of The Sower
"{24} Another parable put He forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: {25} But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. {26} But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. {27} So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? {28} He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? {29} But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. {30} Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to BURN THEM: but gather the wheat into my barn. ... {36} Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and His disciples came unto Him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field. {37} He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; {38} The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; {39} The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest id the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. {40} As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. {41} The Son of man shall send forth His angels, and they shall gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; {42} And shall CAST THEM INTO A FURNACE OF FIRE: THERE SHALL BE WAILING AND GNASHING OF TEETH. {43} Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear." (Mt. 13v24-30, v36-43, AKJV, p.427-428)
"{25} For whosoever will save his life SHALL LOSE IT: and whosoever will lose his life for My sake SHALL FIND IT. {26} For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and LOSE HIS OWN SOUL? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" (Mt. 16v25-26, AKJV, p.429)
"{1} And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said, {2} The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, {3} And sent forth His servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come. {4} Again, He sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared My dinner: My oxen and My fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage. {5} But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: {6} And the remnant took His servants, and intreated them spitefully, and slew them. {7} But when the king heard thereof, He was wroth: and HE SENT FORTH HIS ARMIES, AND DESTROYED THOSE MURDERERS, AND BURNED UP THEIR CITY. {8} Then saith He to His servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. {9} Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. {10} So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. {11} And when the King came in to see the guests, He saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: {12} And He said unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. {13} Then said the King to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
